One of the most important parts of extending your wig’s lifespan and keeping it clean is washing it regularly and thoroughly. We suggest shampooing your wig as often as once every week or week and a half to avoid buildup. But if you’re only wearing your wig every so often and you aren’t using any heavy gels or creams, you can get away with shampooing every 2-3 weeks.
Before washing, comb out your wig with a wide-tooth comb to remove tangles. Start at the ends and work up towards the cap. Do not fully submerge your wig. Rinse it under running, cool water, allowing the water to run from roots to ends. Use a small amount of shampoo and evenly distribute it throughout the hair in a downwards motion. Rinse your wig by holding it under running, cool water until the water runs clear.
Since human hair needs additional moisture, you should use a deep conditioner every other or third wash. Also, it’s important that conditioner only be applied from mid-shaft to ends. Do not apply it to the base or cap, as that affects the integrity of the wig and may result in shedding. Leave the conditioner on for a few minutes. Rinse the wig as you did with washing.
Pat the hair with a towel to dry. If you have one, it’s a good idea to let it dry naturally on a wig stand.
While you are not using your wig, it is important to store it properly. A wig stand is helpful, but not essential. It can help the wig’s cap maintain its shape.
Hold onto the original packaging if you're not using your wig for a while you can back it away in the sating bag and box to protect it. Comb your wig before storing it in order to keep in fresh and tangle-free.
If you’re storing a styled wig and you want to keep it looking fine, use a storage foam head, a folding stand or a canvas block.
